Concussed For The 4th Time

Eric Lindros and I may have something in common.

I have a concussion, again. Snowboarding: It was slightly steep, fluffy (thankfully), I was of course wearing a helmet (thankfully), and now I am healing, but my head still pounds like hell.

My good pal Kris sat with me for hours and hours through the wonderful wait time of our reliable health care system, and we of course had fun documenting the whole thing for the books, me in my somewhat coherent state. It was good to have someone else there who could translate my jibberish to the doctors!

So, I am horizontal, on my sofa, with an imploding head and am extremely high on T3’s. And bored.

OMG!

I ran for 3 hours yesterday. I am in a bit of a shock ‘n awe state, and the best part is: I really don’t feel too much pain today. That was my last long run before the big 42k on May 7th. Did my new “usual”: Burrard to the water, around the park seawall and back, but I ran around the seawall TWICE to get in the right distance and time. Crazy, but all was grand. Perfect running weather helped:overcast, 10 degrees, no wind. Big thank-you’s goin out to Eddie, J5, BlackEyedPeas, Stars, Metric, Radiohead, Killers, ArcadeFire, WolfParade, BeGoodTanyas, Spearhead… for gettin me through.

T-minus 21 days. Yikes.

No Cancuks = Something Different For Me

Yes, while it is sad the Nuckers couldn't quite pull it out in the end, this day marks a sadness for me that far outweighs the lack of playoff hockey buzz this town will miss out on in the coming weeks: now there's zero chance of having my dad in town. Perhaps I am indeed too far away from my homeland… oh, the pangs, the pangs….

Give Me Love In The Mornin’ Light

Ah yes… G. Love really did say it right.

Fantastic show, fantastic band. A little impromptu night out for Meg (I was wearing my rain galoshes, which I enjoy a lot, and my brother's oversized, very large rain coat) when I decided to hop on down to the Commodore to check this band out. (I haven't missed a week at this joint in about 7 weeks – I really meant it when I said I'd take advantage of being back in Van and see as much live music as possible). I was also being summoned from several directions to get my arse down there fast, so I did. And sadly, the show was sold out, BUT WAIT! This lovely girl appeared out of the abyss and handed me a ticket and said, "You can just have this one". Um, wow? My concert guardian angel. Good fortune is on my side. This luck just keeps on a-comin'. So I bought the lovely lady a g&t once on the inside.

What a show. What a CUTE man. What a band. What music. The perfect blend of hip-hop, blues, rap, rock, groove – love it. Who knew? Sorry no pic of mine to go along with this one. Coming soon. Check out some tunes and vids.

Go indulge. Have a listen to a little G. Love.

Choke

And I’m choked about it.
Just played my first match of the season, tennis, that is, with my best pal Kel. My new league has commenced. I have to admit, I haven’t really played a whole hell of a lot over the last 7-8 months, with the whole changing of cities, travelling a lot, being transient and unsettled, and the life situation overall. Prior to that, I played at a club in the Toon last summer, but had not touched the sport competitively in about a decade before that. I am happy to brag that in SK, I was undefeated with my stellar and fabulous partner Lil. So yesterday’s loss of 6-1, 6-0 was a SHOCK! And I’m mad. And disappointed. Boo. I haven’t lost like that since I was, oh, I dunno, 7 years old or somethin, when I couldn’t even keep score or barely hold a bloody racquet.
Where’s my head?

I Hear Seagulls.

So I'm comfortably sitting in my new office, here at Raincity Studios, surrounded by oodles of fabulous natural light pouring in from the large, old windows in this beautiful, historic building, The Seymour Building (the original) in downtown Vancouver, and I look to my right and see a slice of Coal Harbour and the snowcapped North Shore mountains, while the wall directly behind me is a wideshot of an east-facing view of the downtown. And while I work blogging, writing, learning and opening my mind to geekery, over the dull roar of the city buzz below, I listen to the musical cries of the seagulls…

Agent 99 Checkin In

I am official.

Hey internet folks. My new post as Marketing Champion, Agent 99, grasshopper guru extraordinaire has officially commenced at Raincity Studios here in fabulous, sunny Vangroovy. As of today, I have joined the team of Robert Scales, Mark Yuasa and the other lovely gems here at Raincity. My role for the studio falls somewhere and anywhere in the ways of marketing, branding and design. I met Scales, Kris Krug and Boris Mann (of Bryght) trekking around the lovely city of Torino while working for the CBC at the Olympics. Through much vino, espresso and fine fromaggio, it was decided I should jump on board with Raincity.

A wee bit of “works in progress”, soooo much more to come really soon, but check me out thus far:

Ode To Tony, For The Hell Of It

This will only amuse a small selection of you, but I must share:
In the wee early hours of this morning, I began my day, giggling to myself the whole way through, with 110 forehands, 110 backhands, 110 volleys and 110 overheads… and I worked up quite the sweat – that stuff actually is effective. Who knew? I couldn’t get that wall of folded up brown bleachers, at about net height, out of my mind!

Today I ran the longest I have run thus far in my life…. in the pooring Van rain… just hope I make it to May 7th, the big 42km day, a mere 6 weeks away, healthy and able to just run the buggar to the end…
