I’m not entirely sure if this translated to television, but to me, our Boys had very little passion for the duration of these games. I think that was the difference.
We are assured of the first ever Olympic medal for Newfoundland. The story of these Olympics is that for me. What colour will it be… Time Out: Check this last bit… the crack team of sports investigators of the CBC (aka Hil) have some corrections to make… NF has OF COURSE won some medals in the past – a gold even! – in rowing. Curling, however, is new blood.
Go Brad, Go NF, Go Team Canada – 17:30 Standard Torino Time, Friday, Feb 24th.
Now THESE guys have PASSION…!
Meg, it was so disappointing to see them (men’s hockey) lose, but I think that we all saw it on TV. It seemed like they had no heart or desire. It is one thing to talk about it, but actions speak louder than words… and there was very little action.
On the plus side, this is the most medals that we have ever won at the winter Olympics. Go Canada!
On a side note, we went up the street to our neighbours house for drinks on the weekend. They have three little boys. While we were sitting in the living room, the boys decided to get out mom’s broom and curl in the hallway. Between the four-year-old chants of “hurry, hurry hard” we heard one of them say “I’m Brad Gushue” and another say “I’m Russ Howard” and the third one came crying in the living room saying “I want to be Brad Gushue.”
When I was young, we wanted to be hockey players. Now the kids want to be curlers.
To be denied the pleasure of having the chance to enthusiastically celebrate JUST ONE GOAL in a crowded room or bar is unbelievable!
However, if they’re just not going to have that magic chemistry (a.k.a. Iginla-under Mario-to Kariya), then I’d rather not see them stumble their way into the medal rounds. I’m glad we didn’t have to see the tying goal go in off of Bertuzzi’s ass while he parks in front of the net or something. I’m looking forward to watching the extremely skilled Euros demonstrate the highest level of hockey in the world.
The rest of the sports victories are awesome! The women athletes are cleaning it up for Canada!
Megs — correction on the Olympic medal for Newfoundland! Brian Williams mentioned the other night that Brad’s team will be the second Olympic medal for Newfoundland… and HE’S WRONG! I can’t even remember who he mentioned because I was already half-way to my computer to send CBC the correction that Maria Maunder won a silver in the women’s 8 in Atlanta. Wait a second, Andy Crosby won gold in the men’s eight in Barcelona.
We’re full o’ winners. See if you can pass that on to the CBC crowd.
Go Brad go! (And wicked changing-of-the-guard post from Ryan!)
